Description

Think of PAT Testing – or Portable Appliance Testing – as a health check for all those electrical bits and bobs you plug in. From kettles to lamps, our job is to make sure they’re safe for everyday use. We do this by giving them a good once-over, both with our eyes (a visual check) and with clever electrical tests. If an appliance isn’t up to scratch, we’ll spot it, helping to prevent any unexpected shocks or sparks. Pretty much anything with a plug can be tested, and even those built-in appliances get a careful visual inspection.

Why All the Fuss About PAT Testing? It’s About Keeping Everyone Safe!

For businesses across the UK, there are rules they need to follow to keep their workplaces safe, like the Health and Safety at Work Act and the Electricity at Work Regulations. PAT testing is a really important part of meeting these responsibilities. When it’s done properly, it can stop serious accidents or even save lives.

And for you lovely landlords and letting agents out there, there’s a legal requirement to make sure all the electrical equipment and appliances you provide in a rental property are safe for your tenants to use. PAT testing helps you meet this obligation and keeps everyone in your properties safe and sound.

What’s the Big Deal? Why Could Things Go Wrong?

Electricity is super useful, but if it goes wrong, it can be really dangerous. If someone accidentally touches a live wire, an electrical current can flow through their body, which can cause serious injury or even be fatal. The effects can vary, but the bottom line is, it’s vital to do everything we can to reduce the risk of electric shocks. Good electrical safety measures, like PAT testing, are key to making this happen.

So, Why Do You Need PAT Testing?

Back in 2015, the Scottish Government gave some clear advice about electrical appliances in rented homes. They strongly recommended that landlords get regular safety checks done on all the electrical appliances they provide. This is to make sure everything is safe for tenants to use, right from the moment they move in and throughout their tenancy. So, if you’re a landlord or letting agent, getting PAT testing done is a really important step.

Appliances that pass our checks get a nice green “pass" sticker. If something doesn’t pass, it gets a red “fail" sticker and should be replaced or repaired. You’ll also get a report that shows the results for every single appliance we’ve tested, and it’s a good idea to share a copy of this report with your tenants so they know everything’s been checked.
